Personally, I find Motifs to be really annoying when playing a bard. Five buffs that need to be hit every thirty seconds is just obnoxious, and it doesn’t add any real depth or compelling gameplay. In my opinion, it would be better if the motifs were combo point builders (and if they were consolidated into two or three abilities instead of six).
Kait
press 1-5 to put up those 30s buffs
spam cadence, power cord, wrath or healing finisher for 25 seconds (if you are VERY lucky, put up the physical/magical/extra damage 1min debuffs)
goto 10.
That’s what wrong.

All you have to do is search the Rogue forums. Plenty of topics about Bards, how they are boring to play, and too many conversations about how they can be improved. Yet they really haven’t changed since launch, and there’s no plans to do anything with them in the near furture according to your Devs.
Most Rogues hate having to play them, when we could be doing more pew pew instead of having to make someone play the class for the raid.Oh, and one other thing. The bard fluff ability to make animals follow you? Seriously? Dumbest thing EVER taking up a spot on the tree that could become something soo much more useful.

The critter one is a joke skill, it doesn’t replace a ‘real’ one. Just something for fun is all, not everything has to be about maximizing numbers. A fun skill that doesn’t get used in real fights/situations is just that, for fun.

I actually like PvPing with my Bard, lots of healing goodness and everyone likes the buffs, but it is a fiddly class no doubt about it. Not the EQ bard of course, ugh, but still pretty bad.
If Motiffs were every minute even it’d be better, but right now I try to get them all going every 30 seconds along with healing … not fun at times and they tend to drop way too often when I need to go to extreme save self/group mode.
I don’t want them to become permanent buffs, that’s too easy, but combine some maybe only have to deal with three or four to do the same thing and once a minute is fine by me.
CericX
They are tedious and boring. There is no element of skill or even enjoyment associated with the soul itself! How to fix it? Add 16 new motifs in, then figure out a way to have each of them synergize with the others. Make each of them last for 5 seconds each, make them combo builders, and have a finale finisher that varies depending on the individual makeup of each “song” doing a burst of damage at the end and nothing during build phases.

For those interested in the context of this conversation, Scott tweeted a link to an interview he did with BAFTA Guru, which he declared he considered to be an honor. This ‘Amy’ chick responded to his tweet with the rude message you see above. Don’t get me wrong, I agree as well that bard needs a revamp, but Amy’s delivery of this message was very insolent.

It’s the typical entitled gamer mentality that seems to be getting worse and worse over time. I agree that the Bard needs loving and tweaks, but to go all pouty I quit to the lead dev is a bit self indulgent.
The ‘my whole guild quit because of me’ drama is played out.

Of course I should Have been ass kiss nice right? I begged since release to have the bard made more enjoyable, only to be ignored over and over and over and over again, I begged politely with well thought out posts and threads that went forever with people agreeing. To no avail, I’m sick to death of being nice to someone who thinks he is too good to look at a fucking forum to see the gobs and gobs and gobs of people who feel the same way as me about bard. So I was snarky, maybe if he or his devs would have done something, ANYTHING I wouldn’t be annoyed enough to be rude. At any rate, it got his attention, didn’t it? instead of the other tweets to him that were nice and polite that I did.
I LIKE support roles, I played one in EQ2, VG, Aion. I don’t expect to be highest heals, or highest dps or even come close, I just DON’T expect to have my class be so monotonous to play that I’m more annoyed after my stress relief (gaming) than I was before I started playing at the end of my day.

I love the idea of the bard class, the combo point system it uses, the idea of cadence, but the repetitiveness of the motif system is what drags me down about it.

This dumb bitch annoys the crap out of me. She is what’s wrong with the MMO genre. Her and every bitch like her. No, don’t try to be a decent human being while addressing the Bards problem, of course not. Instead, be a fucking twat that doesn’t deserve to breath air. I feel sorry for everybody that knows her.

You really think this is my first attempt at getting something done about the bard? Why don’t you go search the rogue forums for Efaicia’s posts and see how polite I was with my begging, post after post after post. I stopped playing back in Nov because of my frustration with this class and the lack of interest devs show for it. Why don’t you go inform yourself before YOU act like an ass?

I’d say lack of creativity is the biggest problem. Not on the part of the developers of Rift, but in terms of what’s offered to the player. Someone playing a bard should be able to exercise creativity and benefit from being creative.
I like the idea, above, of adding lots of motifs so that you can’t use them all, and then having finishers that compliment certain combinations.
I also think that extending motifs might help. It would make more sense if the above were implemented.
Overall, the biggest complaint hat I have, though, is the interaction with Archon. It would be nice if bards had more unique features that didn’t stomp on Archon and visa versa.
Vatec
As others have said, it’s tedious because of the constant repetition of the motifs. In boss fights it becomes both tedious and -annoying- because of the interaction between refreshing motifs and reacting to fight mechanics. Easiest ways to fix the mess would be to A. increase duration of motifs to 1 minute or more, B. give each motif a cooldown matching the duration (so at least you could reasonably macro the stupid things instead of tying up multiple hotkeys on them), or C. turn motifs into combo point builders. As things stand, most Rogues seem to consider playing Bard to be a chore endured only if the group really needs one.

what isn’t wrong with the bard soul? astoundingly low heals, with no
damage, and its no fun to play. having to buff every 30 seconds while
hearing that annoying tune play over and over as you spam over heals
that hardly count as heals at all. then a cleric comes along doing over 1k dps, and 1k aoe heals. then with all the abilities given instead of something nice and useful like an real interrupt, We can make critters follow us. oh joy.
the bard soul needs to really be looked at. sure it gives the best buffs second only to archon, but at least archon is fun to play and gets some useful tricks like spell reflection.

I’ve consistently broken 1.1k hps as a Bard.

Bard is support. SUPPORT. What is difficult to understand? Why are you expecting a full blown healer? Most people I currently raid with LIKE the bard soul and gear themselves to maximize total bardage. I have seen bards in PvP who put out more heals than a 51 Chloro (side note: if you want to fix a heal spec, fix chloro plz). I can’t think of one person who doesn’t like bard buffs during raids. I would like to see the motifs macro-able but other than that, it’s a solid support spec. Amy is probably mad she could never get her dps high enough not to be assigned as bard (poor rogues typically see this as punishment for sucking). Sorry Amy! Don’t let the doorknob hit ya….
Richard Whiting
It’s not that the spec is weak, it’s that it’s boring to play.
Nikko
My biggest problem with the bard is simply that stats are irrelevant. Almost none of the Bard’s abilities (certainly the Support abilities, the reason we pick the Bard) will be modified by any of my stats.
Gambler
Attack power is pretty relevant. It’s only irrelevant if you hardly use Cadence.
Alduskalander
the MAIN problem is the fact that for months lots and lots of suggestions and complains about Bards in official forums had no effect at all. The image that make so many Bard lovers quit rift was that if the word “Bard” was in the thread it means it will not be read by the devs. I saw today new Bard players suggesting / asking for the same things that Efaicia begged for months until she quit without been answered.
Ducksauce
Reading is this is Hilarious, how entitled people feel. Its quite pitafull really, trion is corperation, they need to do other things then make a bard more interesting, sure making it funner would be nice, but why should they make it the top priority? would you rather they stop making raid content and all sit around a table and figure out YOUR PROBLEM? What a waste of time that would be, If your mega impatient? feel free to leave, dont the door hit your panzy ass on the way out. Becuase they have better things to do then spend all thier time fixing one class that is functional, but kinda boring.
