Yesterday was a pretty eventful day for RIFT fans, wasn’t it? This week is going to be pretty awesome, too, with E3 quickly approaching. In the meantime, the community has began speculating about the many features of Storm Legion that have yet to be fully explained. One part that players are the most curious about is the addition of four new souls. What could they be?

We know that there will be one new soul for each class, and that’s… really all we know so far. The community has started a thread on the official forums for all of the soul-speculation action. It can be found here. Want to hear some of the ideas players have came up with? Click “continue reading.”

Warriors:

For Warriors, most players see quite a few options here. We could see a healer Warrior soul, a true support Warrior soul, or a true ranged DPS Warrior soul. All would be welcome. Here’s one cool idea for the ranged version that kind of encompasses many of the other ideas:

“Warriors: I want to be really creative here and also go along the lines of this being a first ranged class as well. I’m calling it a runeguardian. He uses various rune blade techniques and buffs that allow him to be close range or far away in combat. The runes can either debuff opponents with various sword attacks or he can place runic fields directly on the ground buffing or healing players that stand inside. Or he can use runes to attack from a range that siphon energy and health from opponents to aid his allies.”

Rogues:

Many players have suggested some sort of true healer soul for the Rogue. That seems like a very solid idea, and would complete the Rogue arsenal well. Here’s one idea for approaching a healing Rogue:

“I would like to see Alchemist for rogues and they throw potions, etc. to heal allies.”

Many older games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Ragnarok Online represent the Alchemist class well. The idea would fit into RIFT’s lore very well, I think. Other ideas for Rogues include an engineer-type soul, and a second tanking soul.

Mages:

For Mages, there are two popular ideas: a water magic-based soul, and a tanking soul.

“Mage tank please.

No block, no deflect, no parry, no dodge.

All magical shields like Rune Shield and Burning Shield as well as other types of adsorptions, reflects and debuffs to the enemy.”

I love the idea of a ranged magic-based tank. Many MMOs play around with the idea of something like one, but Mage tanks are rarely seen in full-form.

Clerics:

One idea for Clerics is a true support soul. Another is a different version of a damage/healing hybrid that uses a new mechanic:

“I would like to see something like an Runekeeper from LotRO for clerics. More healing increases the power of your heals and enables you to use stronger heals. More damage increase damage output and enables stronger dps skills. “

A monk soul would also work well for Clerics, and could even be a second tanking soul. Monks could also work well under the Warrior class, or possibly Rogue, too.

There’s a lot of speculation to be had here! What are some ideas you have?

I want something like Warhammer Online’s Disciple of Khaine, a melee healer, for the rogue soul.

Ooh, good one. I simply adore the idea of a true melee healer, would roll one in a heartbeat.

I would definitely be welcome to see a healing soul for warriors. The paladins I’ve been used to always have some sort of healing that benefits everyone, not just the paladin themselves.  Though I guess they could just tweak the paladin class to be more healer. But as the list goes, warriors are either damage or tank, not much support. The other three classes get three roles, so a third role for warriors would be welcome.
A monk/martial artist would also be welcome, and it could fit under one of a few classes, but perhaps best with clerics. That way they can heal a bit too.
Some sort of potion wielding rogue would be cool too. I can’t wait for E3!

That’s one idea Trion may very well be working with– tweaking some of our existing souls into ones that synergize better and fit better overall.

I would love to see the monk make his way into the game, but don’t want to see it like GW’s monk where it was a healer. I want an old school, EQ1 monk, and that would go best in the rogue class due to the armor. I couldn’t imagine any martial artist running around wearing plate.

Clerics have good healing, good tanking…. well they have DPS souls… what they lack is some really good synergy.

The biggest issue with clerics is that their damage types are all over the map, they have all 6 damage types and since most of their buffs only affect one of the 6, there is little synergy between sets.

What would really help clerics, as much as a new soul, is the adjustment of old souls to focus more on attack type (melee, ranged, channel, cast time spells, instants) rather than elemental type.  Every viable cleric build except a few niche healing builds, is 51 deep.  No other calling has as little variety in their build setup.

I would love to see a warrior have a healing or support roll. I think Range dps doesnt make much sense for a warrior. I think they should turn palandin in to a heal spec and give us a real support roll

I also think a mage tank would be cool if there where ment to tank high caster damage as like an off thank on some fights would be cool.
