We received some clarification yesterday about the persistent world event currency that RIFT has been moving toward beginning with patch 1.9. Basically, we’ll be seeing certain events year after year including Fae Yule, Carnival of the Ascended, and Summerfest– and the rewards for those events may not be designed to be able to purchase everything the first time around. In fact, it seems the intention may be the opposite.

Here is the post we got from Kerilar yesterday in this thread, regarding Summerfest and the fact that there are numerous rewards that require bracelets, yet only so many ways to actually acquire bracelets:

Summerfest is not like almost any of the previous World Events. It will be back next year. That is why you can’t get everything this year. Hammerknell will never open again, so you won’t see that content, and so you needed to be able to get all of it. Summerfest you will see every year and so you can get what you missed next year. Expect to have to choose rewards for any Annual event going forward.

This is quite an interesting change from many of the previous world events, where currency was almost ridiculously easy to obtain. Some players are for this change, some against. The goal, obviously, is to get players to take part in these world events year after year, similar to how other MMOs handle their holiday events. It’s fun to look forward to annual world events, but at the same time– RIFT players are used to something different, something not quite so spread out.

As far as Summerfest goes, at least the majority of bracelet rewards are pure fluff items. The essences just require merit badges, which are pretty easy to accumulate now that they’ve been added to some rift and invasion loot tables.

There’s also this fact, too, brought up by a few players:

“Well today I fished up a bracelet. So they are out there in other places too.

Fishing doesn’t take that long. You only need 20 fish and 10 leaves a day. Maybe 20 minutes a toon.”

Fishing seems to work well as far as acquiring merit badges too. The whole Ascend-a-Friend dailies also make obtaining rewards easier, as does having alt characters, of course.

Kerilar also posted an announcement yesterday regarding the currency changes coming to 1.10. Here it is:

Hello all! In order to give everyone adequate warning, I’m announcing today that the next phase of the World Event Merchant changes will be coming with 1.10.

The items that you purchase from the merchant from 1.4 and 1.5 will be removed as of 1.10 launch.

These currencies are:
Dragon Tears (1.4)
Magma Opals (1.5)

If you are still leveling your Tartagon or Raptor, you’ll need to hustle, as of the launch of 1.10 they ability to level them further will end.

Again, as I stated prior to 1.9; These items are not being removed from the game and there will be other exciting avenues to acquire them, but they are going to be removed from the World Event Merchant.

This was posted today regarding the Summerfest stuff: “The Summerfest items are coming to the World Events merchants, Boularna
in Meridian and Brendnall in Sanctum. They will appear within the next
      few days.”

So you’ll still be able to buy your items!
