Extra Life 2012 – RIFT Style

If you were playing RIFT last year, you might remember the fun that was had during Extra Life 2011. If not, here’s a recap: players and Trion staff members joined up to play RIFT for 24 hours straight… for charity! Gaming for a good cause! Friends and family members were able to donate, and the proceeds went directly to the Children’s Miracle Network.

It’s that time of year again, and Trion’s gearing up to take part in Extra Life 2012. The best part is, we’re all welcome to join, either by signing up at RIFT’s Extra Life page and joining Trion’s team, or by donating to the cause. The event starts on October 20th.

Oh, and in case you’re curious, yes, players who take part do get a nifty title. Trion will also be using their new, fancy live stream page this year, and will be streaming some of the action, along with gameplay footage from the other titles Trion Worlds is hard at work on. Keep reading to see the full announcement and all the details on how to join in on the fun for a good cause.

I can’t believe it’s been a year since thousands of you joined us for the first annual Extra Life event but the best part is – we get to do it all over again!

We’re hosting 24 hours of fun starting October 20th @ 8AM Pacific (3PM GMT) in support of Extra Life. Part of the Children’s Miracle Network, Extra Life is a charity focused on bringing gamers together from around the world to help sick kids by raising money for hospital bills and life-saving operations.

Being a part of this great cause is easy:

1. Join our Extra Life team or form your own
2. Collect donations from your family, friends, co-workers, and fellow gamers.
3. Then login to RIFT that weekend and play with us for as long as you can!

Those who go the distance and play a full 24 hours over the course of the weekend can look forward to unique titles only available during this one weekend event.

Over the past year we’ve also developed a fondness for live streams and for the first time we’ll be streaming the action via our Twitch.TV channel from the Trion HQ. You’ll get to watch the entire community team slowly lose our minds as we descend into the madness of the wee morning hours. Who knows what mischief we’ll get ourselves into?

We’ll post all the technical details about how you can earn the titles and what shard the festivities are taking place on closer to the event. There are some great improvements from last giving you more flexibility and making it easier for everyone to participate!

During the live stream we will also be showing you some gameplay from Defiance, End of Nations and Warface. Each of these games represents a different path that Trion Worlds is blazing in the upcoming year and beyond.

Like last year, Trion will announce an NA shard for Extra Life participating players to gather on, make new characters, and have fun with the team. Participants are also free to play on any shard of their choosing. For more information, also see this forum thread.
