Now that Storm Legion’s been out for a while and the holidays have come to an end, many members of the RIFT community are becoming a little concerned. Why’s that? Because of Trion’s lack of recent community interaction and support. Botting has been a problem on and off in the game for a while, especially since the addition of fishing, but it has never been as rampant as it is now. Fishing bots are helping inflate the in-game economy on many shards, and AFK leveling has also been an issue in the expansion. Trion has yet to say much about either.
Many players are also concerned about Trion’s general lack of recent community support when it comes to player harassment and in-game chat and name moderation. There has been an influx of new and returning players in RIFT since Storm Legion, and many of the chat channels across multiple shards are becoming a little hostile. The official forums have also been fairly quiet as of late. Between Trion’s recent flux of layoffs and the winter holidays, a bit of silence is to be expected, but how much silence is too much, exactly?
A number of threads popped up on the official forums over the weekend where players have expressed various levels of concern over the botting issues and Trion’s current level of community interaction. Two of those threads did receive responses from Dahanese, which was reassuring to see.
The first thread was about how quiet Trion staff members have been on the RIFT forums during the past month or so. Dahanese gave us an update:

Thanksgiving and Christmas (and a post-launch breather) is one component to the quietness but even when the devs aren’t posting, they are always reading.I know that having people to talk back to is super important, though – being told that we’re reading and listening isn’t nearly enough (we all want dialogue.)
If there’s anything you think we’ve missed please feel free to lob a PM to myself and/or Elrar.
The other thread was regarding the current state of RIFT, and in it, a few of the forum Community Ambassadors shared their concerns about what they are seeing within the community and from Trion. Dahanese posted the following:

Hey guys -I just wanted to pop in and say hi and hopefully talk about some of your worries (and say that others we’ll work on in the coming days and weeks.)
As to one concern I’ve seen, interaction, I can say that we’ve been more quite due to the fact that the devs just launched a large expansion and got a much-deserved breather and since we just finished up with a longer holiday stint, many of us were traveling. We’re still working behind the scenes but sometimes do become more scarce around the forums (and for that you have my apologies!)
Elrar and I are going to be putting our heads together next week – so feel free to lob us messages if there’s anything you think we’ve missed.
Thanks.
It will be good to see what Trion has planned for the botting situation. As for the other community issues, time can only tell if the situation will improve, but for the moment, any type of communication is a good sign. Trion’s been pretty good about communicating with the RIFT community in the past. Hopefully, that trend will continue.
