2.7 ui header

During last Friday’s Trion live stream, Gingers detailed some of the new UI adjustments and additions that will be added to RIFT in 2.7 and beyond. Sure, user interface stuff is kind of minor in the grand scheme of things, but in actuality, it can be really important to our ease of access and overall enjoyment of the game. That’s the whole reason most of us love addons, right? MMORPGs are all about customization, even down to the nuts and bolts of the buttons and frames we work with every time we’re online.

Keep reading to take a look at a list of some of the UI changes, additions, and future plans Gingers talked about (for more info you can also check out this forum thread that Gingers has been replying to with regular updates):

2.7 soul collective

Just in case you haven’t had a chance yet to hop on the PTS and try out the Arbiter, Physician, Oracle, or Liberator– the four new souls being added in RIFT 2.7– yet, we’ve collected some of the best links out there for build guides, lists of feedback, soul calculators, and videos of the new souls in action. If you have any other cool links for us to share, feel free to drop us a line in the comments section. We’ll try and keep this updated as the time closes down to the launch of 2.7.

pvp dimension header

During last Friday’s live stream extravaganza, Daglar and the team showed off a PvP dimension that Kiwi created on the PTS (Kiwi also, by the way, conducted a pretty cool interview regarding PvP dimensions with Pithos if you haven’t checked it out yet). PvP dimensions, as we knew from before, are arena-like in function, allowing players to form 2 or 3 teams that go head to head in a dimension that players create using all kinds of new goodies that allow dimensioneers to create boundaries, scoring methods, starting points, timers, and even environments that cause participants to take damage.

All’s fair in war, right? Well, in this case what’s fair is in the hands of the dimension creator, which gives our intrepid creators a pretty big– and fun– challenge ahead. PvP dimensions will not have any official leaderboards or rewards simply due to the fact that players are ultimately in charge here (and exploits therefore are a high risk), but I think it’s safe to say that if the playerbase tosses together some PvP dimensions that are truly epic (and c’mon, we know they will), Trion wouldn’t hesitate to turn one or two into a real warfront.

oracle header

In quite a surprising move, Trion announced late last week that our four new souls that were originally slotted for 3.0– the Arbiter, Liberator, Oracle, and Physician– will be going live in RIFT‘s next major update, which will be 2.7. The team revealed a teeny bit about both the new Warrior soul and the new Cleric soul. The Oracle, which was originally dubbed ‘Crusader’, is a support-based Cleric soul armed with magical spells originating from the Death and the Water planes and is both a fierce ally and a force to be reckoned with. The Liberator is a healing Warrior who excels in raid/group healing and absorption shields.

We’ll find out more info about the other two souls– the Arbiter, the Mage tank, and the Physician, the Rogue healer– in the next couple of days. Trion has already stated that these new souls will be purchasable in a bundle on the RIFT Store, but we don’t know the exact price details yet. We also know that there will be at least two major content updates before 3.0, which means that aspiring Arbiters, Liberators, Oracles, and Physicians will have plenty of time to discover awesome soul setups before the level cap is extended.

carnival 2014 header

It’s that time of year again, folks. The time for balloon popping, glass beads, Alo’s Amazing Popped Corn, adorable pinatas shaped like our favorite bosses, and cool-looking Nebula mounts. It’s Carnival of the Ascended! While the event won’t officially start until 3:30 PM PST later today, yesterday’s patch made this year’s purchasable goodies appear on the RIFT Store as well as plopped a chunk of new achievements for us to chase after (also, check out the RIFT mobile app for the event-themed scratcher mini-game).

From the looks of it, the event itself will be largely unchanged from last year except for a few new items to collect and the new achievements. This preview will go over the new goodies and achievements specifically. If this is your first year taking part in Carnival of the Ascended, feel free to check out our guide from last year as well as our writeup from two years ago for more info about the event itself and what it will consist of.

2.6 chat issues header

This last weekend after the release of RIFT 2.6 has been, well, kind of rough for RIFTers to say the least. The update caused a myriad of issues, and the most frustrating was undoubtedly the loss of all in-game chat channels and mail systems throughout a large chunk of the entire weekend. This made everything from raiding and grouping to socializing, immersive quest undertaking, and leveling Dream Weaving with the help of an alt army quite the challenge.

Pithos and Daglar were both around randomly over the weekend to give us updates during shard downtime periods, but the majority of the issues didn’t get fully fixed until Monday morning. Daglar issued an apology over the forums yesterday and told the RIFT community that all players affected over the weekend would be receiving chests of 160% boosts for putting up with the weekend’s issues. These chests should be delivered during this Wednesday’s patch. Keep reading to see the full details.

conquestex_title

During last Friday’s Trion live stream, we finally got an update of sorts about PvP dimensions, which we first heard about quite a few months ago initially (back in July 2013, in fact). Earlier this year, we were told that they were still in development but had to be pushed back in priority. Now we finally heard some good news!

OverloadUT and dahanese said that PvP dimensions will not be coming with RIFT 2.6, but they will be coming shortly after. Specifically, they hinted that we’re talking about a time frame of weeks rather than months, but weeks could also mean 5+ weeks. In all likeliness, this hints to a time period of somewhere between 4 and 8 weeks.

Now, as to what PvP dimensions are exactly. Greg went into some detail. PvP dimensions take place in normal dimensions, but they have to be set up as such. They can be set up to either be a 2-team battle or a 3-team battle. The items that can be placed within the dimension are how rules and designated fighting areas are decided upon. As we know from before, this includes the areas where players zone in and choose their team. The scoreboard dimension item, as one example, will allow players to interact with it and set the time limits for matches.

budgie race

Yep, as promised during last Friday’s live stream, it’s Budgie Madness! And Chicken Week. And Budgie Week. And hey-look-it’s-another-lockbox week. Whatever you wish to call it. It’s all rolled into one new RIFT promotion that started yesterday. The adorable budgie mounts are the main attraction of the week-long promotion that will run until February 12th.

Players can take part in up to three daily quests a day that involve short race courses in Freemarch/Silverwood, Cape Jule, and Pelladane. Completing the three dailies for the first time will reward each character with a Budgie Trove, which is this promotion’s unique lockbox that has a chance of containing the Frosty Budgie as well as various Tier 1 raid goodies. By completing the dailies, you can also collect Bird Seed. 850 Bird Seed can be turned in for the Ashen Budgie mount from the vendors near the race courses.

Unfortunately, with the length of the event, we won’t be able to pick up the Ashen Budgie just from the dailies (each rewards 10 seed, so 30 a day x 7 days = only 210 seed). Bird Seed can also be obtained inside the Budgie Troves, but generally seems to be rewarded in rather small amounts. Bird Seed isn’t tradeable between characters/alts, either. The good news is that we do get a free Budgie Trove or two, depending on how many Storm Legion-accessible alts we have.

chicken week bounty hunts header

During last Friday’s Trion live stream we found out a few interesting tidbits and were shown some new things. First of all, Daglar showed up to announce that the Reaver Warrior soul is going to be made into a full DPS soul in the future. It will no longer be a tank soul, but the disease-spreading flavor of the soul will remain largely the same. Trion feels it’s simply too difficult to balance as many tank souls as there are (and will be with the Arbiter, the Mage tank soul coming in 3.0).

Vladd eluded to a similar note on the forums the other day and noted that the Paladin and Void Knight will be balanced so they are both on par with each other instead of remaining separate physical damage/magical damage mitigation specialists. From the sounds of it, these Warrior changes will go live somewhere between the post-launch period of 2.6 and 3.0.

1 27 live stream combat pet skins header

During last Friday’s Trion live stream, Greg “OverloadUT” had a few guests from the Trion team including Gingers from the UI department and Daglar. They showed off a few UI improvements and new features that are currently being developed. Some are not even previewing on the PTS yet. All of these improvements and features will be added in with RIFT 2.6. The coolest new feature that was revealed was the new combat pet skin system that will let players customize their favorite in-combat pets. Here’s a quick rundown of that and more.

Note: As always, all information shown on the PTS or on Alpha builds such as the info shown in this live stream is subject to change at any time.
