RIFT’s preset soul build addition, also known as Calling Purposes, is fresh out on the PTS and available for player testing. Information about this feature and other additions Trion has in store for new players and old players alike can be found here. The preset build feature promises to be a helpful aid for new players leveling in RIFT, and also a handy, optional way for veterans to experiment with new builds, classes, and class roles. Let’s dive into some of the specifics about this cool feature, focusing on the Cleric class.

New players will probably gain the most benefits from this system. The benefits are seen as early as the character creation screen. When creating a new character, players will be prompted to choose their faction, then gender and race. Added to the race selection screen is now a handy set of buttons that allows players to preview the character in various sets of obtainable gear.

So you hit 50 on your brand new FoTM Mage, now what do you do? If you have checked the forums at all lately your told 28/38 is the best. Being a brand new 50 having a 4 piece set and a HK crystal isn’t an option therefor 28/38 isn’t the best option for you. RIFT has now had some time to settle into its cozy endgame state. The majority of players have had plenty of time to explore and decide on an endgame playstyle. Some players enjoy RIFT for its raiding content, others enjoy the casual and social aspects of the game’s solo, small group, and collection/achievement features. Most players know exactly what they want to achieve while they’re level 50, and this is a good thing, because it means that the game is stable.

One issue with this stability is the fact that there’s currently a sort of gap between the two largest groups of endgame players. RIFT, in general, has a split focus. Trion has been marketing the game toward raiders and toward casual solo/small group players. This is an excellent marketing strategy, but as a result, players are seeing a sort of a dichotomy between the two groups. RIFT has a large number of Hammerknell raiders, a large number of players who enjoy small group content, Chronicles, events, and achievements, and not a lot of players in between. This makes it difficult for raiding guilds to recruit.

Hello again, fellow RIFTers. It’s time to wrap up the Ember Isle Guardian Quest Guide with Part 3, the final installment in this series. If you missed the other parts, here they are: Part 1 and Part 2. We left off last time at the journey toward Fell Fields. Let’s jump right to the action.

Welcome back to the Ember Isle. Part 1 of this quest guide can be found here. For your convenience, I have added map coordinates for many key locations in this installment. Let’s begin right where Part 1 left off– heading toward Forlorn Fen.

Ember Isle is a pretty amazing place to quest. The island’s got it all– dailies, story quests, reputation to grind, resources to gather, and plenty of zone events, rifts, and invasions to distract you along the way. To help you out, here’s an introductory guide to the Guardian-side quests (see, it isn’t just about you, Defiants!), and a suggested walkthrough. You don’t have to follow my suggestions, of course. Half the fun in exploring new content is blazing your own trail through it. Speaking of blazing, let’s get started.

Extra Dimensions

Material existence in the Telaran universe is woven and shaped by the six Planes of reality. These planes are represented by dimensions, wherein each dimension can be thought of as a space filled with the fundamental forces of the elements; air, death, earth, fire, life, and water. In these spaces, the elements exist in a pure form, unhindered by the influence of extra-dimensional corruption. Dimensional planes can be thought of as violent, chaotic universes existing independent of, but parallel to, one another. Rifts originate from tears within the fabric of these dimensions. Tears are formed when the elemental power of a given dimension becomes too great to be contained, causing that dimension to spill over into the material realm.

To understand the Lore relations between the Ember Isles and Telara,  I have tried to provide a brief synopsis of key events in Telaran lore.

As a major component to the Ashes of History, the Ember Isle will reveal some important insights on the forging of Telara. On the Ember Isle, an alliance will form between the dragon cult of Laethys, dragon of earth, represented by the Golden Maw; and Maelforge, dragon of fire, represented by the Wanton. The cultists have been overpowered by the influence of these dragon aspects, and it is from the Isle that they intend to build their forces in secrecy, so that they might prepare an invasion force capable of conquering Telara.

Let’s give a warm, fuzzy welcome to the latest fancy mount to hit the Trion shelves– Spindrel! Everybody needs a creepy spider mount, right? And yes, you heard me right about the ‘Trion’s shelves’ part. This very realistic looking mount isn’t available during a Fall festival or world event having to do with destroying spider overlords. It’s only available for cash via Trion’s digital upgrade shop.

Rift Junkies latest member put together a fantastic preview of Ember Isles, RIFT’s newest world zone. The zone is absolutely gorgeous including some of the most diverse landscapes we’ve seen so far. Check out the video as Warbs brings you through the terrain, quests, and the different locations on the isle.

Repuatation Factions

• Kelari Expeditions – Talos Landing – All dailys offer Inscribed sourcestone – +100-150 rep per quest
• Kelari Expeditions arrived here to restore contact with the Keepers of the Flame who are an ancient order sworn to safeguard the sourcewells and maintain maelforges prison inside the volcano
• Keepers of The Flame – Ember Watch – All dailys offer Inscribed sourcestone – +100 rep per quest

Currently the Rep Quatermasters do not have any loot yet in their merchant panes. There is also a new mount present at Ember watch called epicraptorQ thought to be a mount related to Keepers of the Flame reputation. After a few quests, you can get the Nexus Infusion ability which upgrades defenses around Stonewells and consumes one planar charge. Planar charges can now be found around most outposts on the ground.

These Stonewells seem to be focal points for invasions and perhaps PVP.

The mobs in Ember isle are all level 52 with Non elite mobs averaging 13k HP and elite mobs averaging roughly 119-80k hp. Also, if you haven’t guessed it, we may be seeing a certain fire dragon in the volcano in the center of the map.
