So you want to join the ranks of Mage healing.  I won’t kid you, it’s a tough job that’s made even more tough by only having a couple direct healing spells.  While you could be a good dungeon healer you will likely play a support healer in raids.  This isn’t a knock against Mage healers, we are very good at pumping out group heals, but keeping a tank up during massive pulse damage can be tricky with little to no margin for error.

So with all the challenges that a Mage has to overcome when healing what spec makes it easier and how can a Mage go from being a good healer to a great one?  Well, most of the time you will find that those Mages who are good at healing know all the fights like the back of their hand and, more importantly, they know how to manage their cooldowns and time their direct healing abilities properly.  While the timing and management of cooldowns are an art form that will take a fair bit of practice to master we can take a look at how you might want to spec out your Mage souls, what macros to have available, and a general rotation of some spells.

Okay, we have one more teeny bit of Storm Legion speculation for everyone. This time, it’s based on the artwork shown above that Trion used in their Storm Legion Mage Soul Reveal announcement. Look at the Mage figure outline, and that weapon being wielded. Is it a staff, one-handed sword, or… possibly something larger? Is it possible that the new Mage soul will use two-handed swords?

So you hit 50 on your brand new FoTM Mage, now what do you do? If you have checked the forums at all lately your told 28/38 is the best. Being a brand new 50 having a 4 piece set and a HK crystal isn’t an option therefor 28/38 isn’t the best option for you. Over the next few articles I’m going to pave a road for you leading up to you becoming a Defilemancer. The first article we will focus on gearing options and working our way to Tier1 Raid Gear (Amunet’s Studius / Mesmerizing)

With 1.6 just a few days away many of the “jobless” magi are dusting themselves off, or working their way up the ranks in order to fill in that new position. The circus is coming to town and looking for qualified jugglers, yes you heard me correctly jugglers. Where Mages used to have a set rotation come 1.6 we are now a “priority” calling, and mostly with our DoT spells.

Rift Mage

With 1.6 around the corner many changes to the callings are going to happen, for some it feels like doomsday every time something in their beloved calling is changed. Mass fear sweeps over and “it’s the end of the world” so to speak. Many Nerf’s and many Buffs are headed our way and for some the light at the end of the tunnel is approaching, Mage’s for one are getting a very nice review and the changes seem to bring new life into the game for many of us. As of now we only have a few souls that mix and match well together, you wouldn’t want to put together a 35/31, Archon Stormcaller, or even an Elementalist with a Dominator. We can make them work, but let’s face it if the ability to inspect someone’s soul’s was available you would be laughed right out of Meridian. With 1.6 we are getting a nice overhaul and this is going to add a huge diversity to our lineup for raids.

Archons are support specialists who steal their opponents’ strength and convert that raw energy into beneficial magic. These mages bolster their allies and unleash potent kinetic blasts, quickly turning the tide of battle.

For many who have any experience in the raid scene of Rift, Flaring Power is a very well-known and powerful cooldown provided by the Archon soul of the Mage calling. When burst damage is required to destroy Infiltrator Johlen’s devastating bombs in Greenscale’s Blight, Flaring Power is the go-to cooldown of choice for raid damage. When the raid wants to beat the enrage timer on Murdantix in Hammerknell Fortress, Flaring Power is used as a necessity on cooldown. Anytime the raid desires more damage in the form of burst, you guessed it… Flaring Power.

However, despite the general consensus, Archons actually have other spells besides Flaring Power! So whether you are an experienced raider seeking to know exactly what those spells are, or a brand new mage seeking to be your raid’s Archon, read on and see what this outstanding soul has to offer!
