During last Friday’s Trion live stream, we finally got an update of sorts about PvP dimensions, which we first heard about quite a few months ago initially (back in July 2013, in fact). Earlier this year, we were told that they were still in development but had to be pushed back in priority. Now we finally heard some good news!

OverloadUT and dahanese said that PvP dimensions will not be coming with RIFT 2.6, but they will be coming shortly after. Specifically, they hinted that we’re talking about a time frame of weeks rather than months, but weeks could also mean 5+ weeks. In all likeliness, this hints to a time period of somewhere between 4 and 8 weeks.

Now, as to what PvP dimensions are exactly. Greg went into some detail. PvP dimensions take place in normal dimensions, but they have to be set up as such. They can be set up to either be a 2-team battle or a 3-team battle. The items that can be placed within the dimension are how rules and designated fighting areas are decided upon. As we know from before, this includes the areas where players zone in and choose their team. The scoreboard dimension item, as one example, will allow players to interact with it and set the time limits for matches.

budgie race

Yep, as promised during last Friday’s live stream, it’s Budgie Madness! And Chicken Week. And Budgie Week. And hey-look-it’s-another-lockbox week. Whatever you wish to call it. It’s all rolled into one new RIFT promotion that started yesterday. The adorable budgie mounts are the main attraction of the week-long promotion that will run until February 12th.

Players can take part in up to three daily quests a day that involve short race courses in Freemarch/Silverwood, Cape Jule, and Pelladane. Completing the three dailies for the first time will reward each character with a Budgie Trove, which is this promotion’s unique lockbox that has a chance of containing the Frosty Budgie as well as various Tier 1 raid goodies. By completing the dailies, you can also collect Bird Seed. 850 Bird Seed can be turned in for the Ashen Budgie mount from the vendors near the race courses.

Unfortunately, with the length of the event, we won’t be able to pick up the Ashen Budgie just from the dailies (each rewards 10 seed, so 30 a day x 7 days = only 210 seed). Bird Seed can also be obtained inside the Budgie Troves, but generally seems to be rewarded in rather small amounts. Bird Seed isn’t tradeable between characters/alts, either. The good news is that we do get a free Budgie Trove or two, depending on how many Storm Legion-accessible alts we have.

RJ Patch Notes

A new Frosty Budgie mount can be acquired from Limited Edition: Budgie Troves, available on the Rift Store and by completing the new achievement Chicken Run!

A new Ashen Budgie mount can also be purchased with Bird Seed, which is obtained from the Limited Edition: Budgie Trove and by completing new daily quests in Silverwood (Guardian Only), Freemarch (Defiant Only), Pelladane, and Cape Jule.

Note: This event runs from 8:15am server time on February 5th and ends at 8:15am server time on February 12th.

Known Issue: The “Chicken Run” achievement does not show up, however, it can still be earned. Complete all of the Budgie races for the Planar Research Institute in (Silverwood or Freemarch, faction depending), Pelladane, and Cape Jule to receive a Limited Edition: Budgie Trove.

chicken week bounty hunts header

During last Friday’s Trion live stream we found out a few interesting tidbits and were shown some new things. First of all, Daglar showed up to announce that the Reaver Warrior soul is going to be made into a full DPS soul in the future. It will no longer be a tank soul, but the disease-spreading flavor of the soul will remain largely the same. Trion feels it’s simply too difficult to balance as many tank souls as there are (and will be with the Arbiter, the Mage tank soul coming in 3.0).

Vladd eluded to a similar note on the forums the other day and noted that the Paladin and Void Knight will be balanced so they are both on par with each other instead of remaining separate physical damage/magical damage mitigation specialists. From the sounds of it, these Warrior changes will go live somewhere between the post-launch period of 2.6 and 3.0.

* Neddra’s Torture: Multiple mages can now cast this ability on the same target at the same time without causing complications.

1 27 live stream combat pet skins header

During last Friday’s Trion live stream, Greg “OverloadUT” had a few guests from the Trion team including Gingers from the UI department and Daglar. They showed off a few UI improvements and new features that are currently being developed. Some are not even previewing on the PTS yet. All of these improvements and features will be added in with RIFT 2.6. The coolest new feature that was revealed was the new combat pet skin system that will let players customize their favorite in-combat pets. Here’s a quick rundown of that and more.

Note: As always, all information shown on the PTS or on Alpha builds such as the info shown in this live stream is subject to change at any time.

bounties header

There has been talk about a new RIFT 2.6 feature in development called Bounties, but aside from a brief mention during a recent live stream as well as the fellow in the header image and an achievement appearing on the PTS, we haven’t heard too much about what Bounties actually are. Kerilar then teased us with a duo of images on Twitter (more on these later!) and followed up with some details on the forums regarding what exactly we have to look forward to:

Whenever you kill an NPC that gives you experience (barring critters since you never do) they will have a chance to drop a special artifact pertaining to that creature type. These artifacts go in new collections called out with a specific naming convention. For example: “Bounty: Air Elemental”.

Handing in a complete set to a Bounty Hunter NPC will further your Achievements for Bounty Hunting. Each Achievement rank grants you a Title, some unique items (including Animal Calls, Mounted Trophies for your Dimensions, and a unique cloak), and access to a special vendor who will sell some interesting potions.

Pretty simple and straight forward! I have some further ideas for later so you may be seeing more Bounty content at a later date, but for now, there you have it!

black loyalty tier 2.6 header

The new features headed our way in RIFT 2.6 continue to roll out on the Public Test Shard (PTS). Last Friday, we received another new update with some pretty cool features to preview, one of which is a completely new Loyalty tier. Also available for preview are unstable artifacts and some of the reward mounts as well the new trophy goodies, the beginning hints of an Air saga world event, and the Bloodfire Stronghold and its corresponding zone events. Let’s take a brief tour, shall we?

Notes: As always, all information found on the PTS is subject to change at any time. Also, it was announced on the PTS that not all of these updates will be going live the day that 2.6 releases. Some parts are connected to the Air saga world event while others will be released gradually.
