moar on 2.6 header

During last Friday’s Trion live stream extravaganza, we found out all about RIFT 2.6. Faratha shared some information on Dream Weaving that we’ve already covered, but Simon and Faratha did mention a few new tidbits regarding the patch itself and other new features we’ll be seeing. Here’s what we found out:

  • 2.6 will add in the rest of the Crucia story arc. Specifically, we’ll be getting a new air saga questline that consists of four arcs that include over 30 new quests.
  • There’s also two new zone events that are part of the Crucia story arc– one fire and one water.
  • There’s a bounty system being added. From the looks of what’s on the PTS so far, this will allow players to hunt down certain enemies for turn-ins that will be located in Tempest Bay. There is a series of new achievements for bounties as well.
  • Faratha wants to add more goodies for guild dimensions in the future such as crafting stations, mailboxes, etc.
  • We’ll be getting new macro icons in 2.6 that are based off the raid icons.
  • We’ll be getting two more raid rifts and a new stronghold that includes a 5-man boss fight with three possible versions at level 30, 50, and 60.
  • We’re also getting something Simon called Bindings of Blood. Hmmm, sounds interesting!

dream destination celebration top 20 header RJ

2014 may be plunging ahead in full swing, but that doesn’t mean the New Year’s celebrations have to come to an end! In RIFT, dimensioneers have been busy celebrating and creating lavish getaways, nightclubs, and retreats for one special event– the Dream Dimension Celebration Contest. This contest, held by Kiwi and her team over at Rift Dream Dimensions, will award dimension creators for piecing together some of the coolest celebrations and party houses around. And believe me– we’re talking much more than houses here! RIFT‘s dimension system is home to some of the most creative minds around when it comes to building in-game works of art.

The final date for entries to be accepted was January 3rd, and since then Kiwi and her team of dimension experts have been narrowing down a staggering 202 entries down into a mere 20. The public hasn’t known which entries made it to the top 20– until today! As one of the honored members of this phase’s judging panel, I have been given permission to showcase the final 20 and share screenshots with the RIFT community.

After we narrow down the top 20 into the top 10, the top 10 will be announced on Rift Dream Dimensions (via live stream) on Sunday, January 12th. After that point, Kiwi and her team will combine the results, showcase those entries in a video and choose the top three winners– first, second, and third place– from there.

A few months ago, the RIFT community was told that while PvP dimensions are very much still in the making, the team has had to put them on the back burner of sorts due to other features that had priority. Pithos, the developer who has been personally working on PvP dimensions, gave us a new update yesterday on the official forums. He basically told us where he’s at on creating them and that he plans on touching bases with Daglar and telling us more soon. Here’s his full post:

I’m the one that has been working on PvP Dimensions when time allows (which has been rare!)…

There’s still no official release date set – it largely depends on how many features we want to launch with, and how often other tasks take priority.

I’ve got a very basic version fully functional now. Current working example: Click a banner to join a team, get teleported to your team’s start point, fight, get a point (or points) each time you kill someone on a different team, when you die and hit respawn, get teleported to your team’s graveyard and resurrect, and then at the end, declare victory for the winning team (or a tie!)… All of this within a dimension of your own creation, of course.

I’ll be talking with Daglar some time soon regarding when & how we want to release this.

Sadly we don’t have a release date yet, but soon hopefully!

fae yule 2013 review header

Ah, Fae Yule. It’s always been one of my favorite RIFT holidays. Ever since last year’s addition of the little sledding mini-game and the IAs, it’s always struck me as one Trion’s better world events. There are plenty of things to do, there are plenty of holiday goodies to stumble across in Telara, and there are adorable boglings in Santa hats running around and plenty of things to get drunk on. What’s not to love?

I also have to admit upfront that I’ve been a little harsh lately regarding Trion’s recent cash shop incentive additions to the game. Mech Week and the like were poorly handled in my opinion, as was Autumn Harvest to some degree. Luckily, Trion seems to have taken our feedback to heart and has given us something much better balanced this time around. ‘Tis the season for Fae Yule and for improved holiday events.

holiday season 2013

Aw, look at the corgis. Wait a minute… Is that a dwarf in his undies and a Fae Yule hat getting drunk behind them? Why, yes. Yes, it is. Wut? C’mon– it’s Trion we’re talking about. Trion released a new video celebrating Fae Yule and the holiday season yesterday, and it’s full of cheer, cute corgis, the majesty of Iron Pine Peak, and, well, yes. This fellow. Dwarves are awesome. No other explanation is needed.

Merry Christmas, happy Fae Yule, and happy holidays, RIFTers! From Trion and from all of us at Junkies Nation/Rift Junkies.

We won’t be seeing RIFT 2.6 on live shards until February of 2014, but for now there are some pretty nifty additions previewing on the PTS that we’ll be able to explore fully when the update goes live. The most exciting new feature might be Dream Weaving– the completely new crafting tradeskill being added in 2.6. Dream Weaving will allow players to break down artifacts and craft all sorts of cool dimension furnishings and features, BoE dimension keys of new dimensions to explore, and new item enchants called Dream Orbs that will stack with runes.

Want to learn more? Take a peek at our writeup and screenshot-filled preview over on Junkies Nation. There’s a reason why all the dimensioneers are clamoring on the forums for 2.6 to come quicker. There will soon be more to love about our favorite homes away from Telara!

As mentioned last week, this Wednesday’s hotfix will be bringing some much-needed changes to the Fae Yule Grab Bags that will make holiday achievement hunting a little easier for players who enjoy options. Tacitus mentioned another couple of Fae Yule changes that should brighten our snow-filled RIFT days a little more. Here’s the big one– we’re getting approximately 10 new Fae Yule achievements this week that focus on activities in the game world! As alluded to last week, the store-incentive collection achievements will also be made to not have achievement points attached to them. Here’s what Tacitus had to say:

As I have posted elsewhere today, this is already happening in next week’s patch – all store incentive achievements are set be worth no points and will be sorted to the very bottom of the Fae Yule category as well. Approximately 10 new achievements will appear as well, based on in-game activities, that will be sorted to the top of the category (above the warfront ones even).

fae yule grab bag news

With the arrival of 2013′s Fae Yule, there are a number of new items and achievements to grab this year. Among the new items is a new RIFT Store lockbox– the Fae Yule Grab Bag. Players can find a number of new, unique Fae Yule pets in the grab bag that go towards completing a new achievement to obtain the Snow Ki Rin mount. On the surface, it looked like this new lockbox and accompanying achievement were yet another content addition that could only be completed by putting cash toward the in-game store, but Archonix made an interesting announcement on the forums late last night.

It appears the Fae Yule Grab Bags were supposed to drop from mobs in the game world as well as randomly be found in the Patron daily gifts. Since they are not currently set that way, they will be made to do so in next week’s hotfix. As a bonus, these boxes that drop in the world and from the Patron daily will also be made tradeable.

fae yule 2013 RJ

Fae Yule will be starting up later this afternoon in RIFT, but we can begin celebrating a little early with all of the new holiday goodies that arrived yesterday after the patch. There are lots of items both new and returning on the RIFT Store and that will be available off the Fae Yule NPCs once they’re live. There are a couple lockboxes, of course, and a menagerie of some friggen’ adorable pets. Oh, and good news for the achievement hounds out there– this year’s Fae Yule has a handful of new achievements to work on finally!

Care for a preview of all the new items? Head on over to Junkies Nation and take a look at our detailed writeup that comes complete with plenty of screenshots. Also, if you’re new to RIFT and this year’s Fae Yule will be your first, make sure to check out our guide from last year to get an idea of what you have to look forward to.
