GameTrailers.com has a great video showing us a presentation by Russ Brown, VP of Development for Rift: Planes of Telara, at GamesCom. In this presentation Russ showed us Sanctum, the main city of the Guardians. He also shows us the class system again. We get to learn about a few different warrior souls as he goes through a Fire Rift Foothold and the last bit shows a quick glimpse of Darkening Deeps.

After reading the Ten Ton Hammer preview we got to know that a new class exists, the Pyromancer. Though long rumored to exist since E3, it is finally official. Keep reading for a background and other details about Rift’s latest new soul.

Abigale, the Community manager for Rift: Planes of Telara, posted today on the forums that there will be a new class announcement coming soon with the next Rift Newsletter.
We are putting the final touches on our next newsletter. It should be ready to go out in the next couple of days.
So make sure you are signed up to get it! You are definitely not going to want to miss all the things we have planned for these newsletters. In fact, this one will be revealing our next class!
You can sign up for the newsletter from the front page of the official website.
Speculation is rampant however, if we had to speculate, we would probably guess one of the two Rogue souls we saw at E3; either the Assassin or Rift Stalker. We wouldn’t argue if we got another calling though! We’re looking forward to it, we get a new class drop soon and a new race drop at GameCom. Stay tuned.

If you were to glance at the Rift: Planes of Telara official web page and look at the class listings you might notice that there is one class that is ringed in purple. Many in the forums wondered what this meant, if it meant anything at all. According to Abigale it actually means something. According to her it means that this particular soul is not available to new players.
After reading this thread over the weekend, I came in to work today looking for answers. Here is what I found out.
Not all souls are available when you create your character. Some souls can only be obtained when you reach level 15/30.
The Blade Dancer is the first class we have revealed that is not a starter soul. That’s why it is in purple.
There will be more purple outlines to come.
So keep this in mind as they continue to update the class page.
