Faratha shared an informative summary on the forums yesterday of how exactly dimensions will be affected when RIFT‘s transition to free-to-play takes place on June 12th. The super-short summary is that dimension enthusiasts will be getting a lot more goodies to have fun with. One look at the RIFT Store on the PTS confirms this. There are a ton of new dimension items (and some achievements finally!). Thankfully, almost all of the dimension items in the store are purchasable with Credits or Plat.

Keep reading to take a look at Faratha’s full post.

moonshade cove title

In the past we’ve covered Star Wars theme parks and snow-covered Viking villages in our Dimension Spotlight. This time, we’re turning down the exotic locales a notch and taking a look at a perfect weekend getaway underneath a waterfall. As a bonus, our waterfall-enchanted nook just happens to be set in Moonshade Pools, RIFT‘s newest dimension.

Moonshade Cove, which is on the Faeblight shard, comes to us from Ebonrose. Thanks to a very cool contest held by The Artisan’s Guild on Faeblight, Ebonrose’s dimension was the first place winner of the “Hidden Gems of Faeblight” contest, which showcased some of the coolest underdog dimensions among Faeblight’s thriving dimension-making community.

moonshade

Elrar announced yesterday that we’ll be seeing the arrival of the new Moonshade Pools dimension next week. This dimension will be one of the largest personal dimensions in-game and will sport a 1000-item limit. It also, of course, features one of the most gorgeous areas of Moonshade Highlands. Elrar also announced that the team will handing out some dimension goodies (two ferns to be exact) for players who are signed up to receive the RIFT newsletter. The team will also be holding a couple of special live stream events for the grand opening of Moonshade Pools:

odins ravine title

Today we’re taking a peek at a place that’s a little unique. I wanted to find an awesome dimension that made good use of the Kestrel’s Cry Ravine dimension, which is our snowy retreat nestled in Iron Pine Peak. I love snow areas in video games, so I admittedly have a soft spot for all the snow flurries in IPP. I’m also a huge fan of Norse mythology, so taking a look at Embrz’s Odin’s Ravine dimension over on Deepwood was, well, an easy decision. Odin’s Ravine is one of those dimensions where the magic is truly in the details and the unique building blocks used in some of the structures.

Embrz has built up a cozy viking community complete with a welcoming longhouse, outdoor forge, stable, and a few outlaying homes that make the view quite charming. The details inside the longhouse, stable, and forge are pretty amazing if I say so myself. And that pig roast? Nom nom nom.

Enough with the chatter! Keep reading to take a look at our screenshot tour. As with most awesome dimensions, screenshots really don’t do the place justice, however. Take a tour for yourself! You can find Odin’s Ravine on the Deepwood shard.

star wars title

Ever feel like RIFT‘s missing a little… something? Something a little Star Wars-y, perhaps? If you’ve ever wanted a little Star Wars in your RIFT or a little RIFT in your Star Wars, there’s a dimension just for you! “Thats No Moon : Its a fat dwarf” is an oddly-named (yes, that’s exactly how it appears in-game) guild dimension on the Icewatch shard that’s a fusion of both RIFT and Star Wars. How cool is that?

The dimension used to create this lovely, geeky paradise is the Tuldio Sun Orb guild dimension and belongs to the Ancient Shadows guild. Included in this theme park of a dimension is a pair of clonetroopers, a snowspeeder, a couple AT vehicles, a replica of the Millennium Falcon, a TIE fighter, a star destroyer and an X-wing. Jabba the Hut, a cool droid, and an awesome looking dragon can also be found. In the very center of the dimension is a miniature scene featuring Ewoks, a speederbike, and an Ewok village that’s been slightly RIFT-ified. Oh, and did I mention Yoda’s there? With his hut? And fish?

Enough said. You gotta see this one to believe it. Keep reading to take a look at our screenshot tour.

aroundthenet

RIFT‘s Design Director Simon Ffinch recently took part in an interview with the team over at ZAM. During the interview, he talked about the next year of RIFT and what the folks at Trion might have in store for us. While he didn’t disclose too many hints, he did hit on a few interesting tidbits including what we might see developed next for dimension lovers, thoughts on Storm Legion‘s more difficult puzzle system (and hope for those who had hoped for a puzzle system closer to classic RIFT‘s), and last but not least– some interesting hints regarding the opening of the Infinity Gate.

Keep reading to take a look at what he had to say.

moonshade pools title

The winners of Trion’s recent Joy of Dimensions contest were awarded one very cool reward– an early key to the new Moonshade Highlands dimension currently in development. This dimension, which is being called Moonshade Pools, will most likely be released in 2.3. It was held back from being released in 2.2 due to the lack of structural buildings inside the dimension. During the course of the Joy of Dimensions live stream series, dimension fans requested some of the tiny hovels found elsewhere in Moonshade Highlands. These hovels haven’t made it into the Moonshade Pools dimension the contest winners are now able to enjoy, but they’ll be there when RIFT 2.3 goes live.

For now, the empty Moonshade Pools dimension is currently up for public preview on the Deepwood shard. If you’d like to take a peek, simply search for “Moonshade Pools.” Keep reading to see a screenshot preview of the empty dimension as well as some information Faratha shared on the forums regarding item limits and the general size of the dimension.

joyofdimensionsheader

The official “Joy of Dimensions” contest closed last week and the winners were announced on Friday, February 15th. For weeks players submitted their Dimensions to the RIFT Facebook page and followers voted for their favorites.

All voters and submitters recieved in-game titles and a special Dimension item. The third place prize was the title “Architect” along with in-game items. Second place was those things plus additional Dimension landscaping. First place was all of those things plus even more in-game items and the opportunity to help Trion choose the next Dimension zone release. There was also a Grand Prize, awarded by a panel of Trion judges, that included all of the previous titles and in-game items along with a fancy new Alienware x51 PC. (Not bad.)

Congratulations to the winners, continue reading to see the screenshots!

rift-archeage-comparison

Last week Trion Worlds announced that they would be publishing XLGAMES’ new MMORPG ArcheAge for Western audiences. At first glance it might seem unusual for a company that already has one MMO (or even two once Defiance launches) to run what could be a competing title, but although RIFT and ArcheAge share some of the same general mechanics there seem to be more differences than similarities.

island estate title

We’re back with another awesome dimension today, and this time we have a lovely beach house getaway out in Shoreward Island ripe for the spotlight. It features all of the comforts of home right over the ocean– a spacious loft, bedroom, fully-stocked kitchen, huge library and study, on-site combat dummies, plenty of statuary in the forefront, and room for guest parking– via the dock. Personally, the dock sold me. I’d make this my weekend home away from Telara any day.
